Second division side Sheger Ketema pulled off a huge upset on Friday in the Ethiopian Cup Round of 16 stage as they beat Premier League reigning champions Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. League leaders Ethiopian Insurance defeated Diredawa Ketema to book their place in the quarterfinal as well.

Ethiopian Higher League side Sheger Ketema are the only side remaining who are not from the top flight to book a place in the quarterfinals. They beat Premier League holders CBE 1-0 courtesy of Jebesa Measa's second half strike, which was the difference between the two sides.

Ethiopian Insurance were too tough for Diredawa Ketema in the later kickoff. The Addis Ababa side won 2-0 thanks to goals from Ugandan player Allan Kayiwa and in form striker Mohammed Abera. Gebremedhin Haile's side are on the hunt for a domestic double after progressing to the last eight.

The Ethiopian Football Federation confirmed quarter final games will be played in March. The EFF further noted that the host city of the matches will be made official in due time.
