In the midst of more than sixteen Ethiopian Premier League players being penalized for failing to abide by recently implemented financial regulations, the Ethiopian Professional Footballers Association (EPFA) elected a new leadership. The association held an elective general assembly in Adama where Ephrem Wondwsen was elected president.

EPFA is established to safeguard the rights of Ethiopian footballers. But a lack of funds has hindered the association's activity in recent years. From its inception the EPFA was led by former Ethiopia national team coach Yohannis Sahle but his tenure was rocked by protests over his eligibility as Sahle was actively pursuing a career as a football trainer.

Wondwsen is a former Ethiopian Coffee captain. Former Nyala and Ethio Electric player Sherif Kedir was elected to be vice president. The new leadership is tasked with assisting Ethiopian players to defend their rights.

Ethiopia is not a member of FIFPro Africa and the new leadership might consider an attempt to join the international association soon.
