Ethiopian champions Ethiopian Insurance have generously rewarded their players for clinching their maiden league title in 2025. The award ceremony came at a critical time for Insurance as they gear up for the CAF Champions League second leg.
The ceremony was graced by Ethiopian Football Federation president Esayas Jira and Ethiopian Insurance Corporation CEO Abel Tadesse.
The club, funded by the state-owned Ethiopian Insurance Corporation, handed out financial rewards worth more than $150,000 USD (25 million Birr) to the title-winning players and coaching staff. Players with the most significant contributions received higher rewards during the award ceremony held in Addis Ababa.
In a very uncommon move in Ethiopian club history, four key players who left the club during the summer transfer window—team captain Hayder Sherefa, Mohammed Abera, Dawit Tefera, and Abubaker Sani—were also awarded.
Insurance hold a 2-0 lead against Zanzibar side Mlandege FC after the first leg in Addis Ababa. Insurance coach Gebremedhin Haile hopes to replicate the same form in the second leg, and the award ceremony is expected to boost the players’ confidence. Tadesse also urged the team to perform well in their continental campaign.
