Dominant Ethiopian Insurance secure historic CAF Champions League win

Ethiopian Insurance kicked off their CAF Champions League campaign with a deserved 2-0 win over Zanzibari side Mlandege FC. The Ethiopian champions put up a dominant performance in both halves.

Insurance made sure their Champions League debut was a day to remember at the Abebe Bikila Memorial Stadium. They dominated the proceedings from the onset. New signing Amanuel Erbo opened the scoring in the 24th minute as he bagged a goal in his debut match.

The total domination persisted in the second half, with Mlandege struggling to cope with the pressure. A collision between Erbo and Mlandege keeper Hamad Hamad resulted in serious injuries to both players, who were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Biruk Mulugeta made it two just at the hour mark.

Mulugeta, Wogene Gezaghen, and Ramadan Youssuf should have scored more goals but squandered opportunities. The visitors failed to register a single shot on goal as Insurance won the game with ease.

Head coach Gebremedhin Haile stated that his charges should have scored more goals going into the second leg in Zanzibar next week.
