Ethiopian Premier League: Arbaminch and Hosaina play to six-goal thriller

Goals galore were on display in Tuesday’s action from the Ethiopian Premier League as Arbaminch Ketema and Hadiya Hosaina played out a 3-3 draw in their Round 18 match at the Adama Science and Technology Stadium. Hadiya Hosaina failed to close the gap on league leaders Ethiopian Insurance after throwing away a two-goal lead.

Hadiya Hosaina scored twice before the 20 minute mark to take a comprehensive lead. Left back Henok Arficho scored from a free kick before center back Dagim Niguesse doubled the lead through a header.

The Crocodiles failed to halve the deficit when Ugandan import Brian Aheebwa missed a spot kick in the first half. Nonetheless a mistake from Hosaina goalie Yared Bekele allowed Butaka Shemena to pull one back for Arbaminch.

The home side scored twice to turn the match around when Aheebwa and Shemena headed home inside the box despite being reduced to ten men after Ashenafi Fida was shown a red card. Hosaina responded to save a point before full time when second half substitute Desta Wamisho equalized for the teams to share the spoils.

Hadiya Hosaina are fourth with 27 points. Newly promoted side Arbaminch Ketema are fifth with 24 points.

Elsewhere, a second half strike from Carlos Damtew handed Wolayta Dicha a 1-0 win over Mekele 70 Enderta in the other match from Tuesday, leaving Sodo-based Dicha in eighth with 23 points while Mekele remain in 11th one point back of Tuesday’s opponents.

On Monday, Adama City fell to a 0-3 defeat to Ethio Electric while bottom side Wolwalo Adigrat and Diredawa Ketema played to a 1-1 draw.
