Ethiopian Premier League Week 24 matches continued earlier today with three fixtures taking place at Hawassa University Stadium. Mechal were the only winners as two games ended in draws.
Mechal ended their nine-game winless run in the top flight by beating Mekele 70 Enderta 1-0. Veteran Ethiopian midfielder Shemeles Bekele’s beautiful strike inside the area proved to be the difference between the two sides.
The win lifts Gebrekristos Birara’s side to eighth place with 32 points, while Mekele 70 Enderta remain 14th with 25 points.
Hadiya Hosaina missed the chance to close the gap on the league leaders following a 1-1 draw against Dire Dawa Ketema. Temesgen Birhanu gave Hadiya the lead in the first half, capitalizing on a poor clearance by Dire Dawa goalkeeper Jemil Yakob. Abel Asebe equalized in the second half for the Easterners.
Hadiya Hosaina sit fifth with 34 points while Dire Dawa Ketema are 12th with 26 points.
Elsewhere, second-placed Wolayta Dicha failed to defeat relegation battlers Adama Ketema, settling for a goalless draw.
