Ethio-Electric ended their three-game winless streak on Monday by defeating Diredawa Ketema 2-0 in a rescheduled Week 25 fixture from the Ethiopian Premier League at Hawassa University Stadium.
The match was initially postponed due to heavy rain that left the pitch waterlogged. In a surprising turn of events, the encounter was postponed once again to Monday after the floodlights malfunctioned in the 87th minute.
On Sunday, April 27, the clubs played for 87 minutes and wrapped up the remaining minutes on Monday. Two-time Ethiopian Premier League champions Ethio-Electric took the lead midway through the first half with Shemkit Gugesa scoring his first league goal of the season. The former Fasil Kenema attacking midfielder converted from the spot. Ashenafi Tiruneh sealed the win with an audacious free-kick effort from range.
Diredawa coach Yitagesu Endale was shown a red card for dissent at the end of the first half. The former Adama Ketema coach risks a suspension in the next matches as the Easterners battle relegation.
Ethio-Electric are now in 12th place with 32 points while Diredawa Ketema are one spot behind in 13th place with 29 points.
