Ethiopian Insurance were held to a barren draw by Saint George in their Week 33 game from the Ethiopian Premier League in Adama. Insurance failed to secure the league title as they wait for the next round, but they are now very close to winning the league with a nine-point lead over second-placed Ethiopian Coffee.

Ethiopian Insurance were better in terms of goal attempts in the first interval, with Abdisa Jemal testing Saint George goalkeeper Bahiru Negash twice. Former Saint George player Ramdan Youssuf also missed a good chance. The biggest opportunity came when Wogen Gezaghen was fouled inside the box, but Dawit Tefera squandered the resulting spot kick.

After the resumption, Saint George were better and frustrated Insurance with constant pressure. The record Ethiopian champions also had numerous scoring opportunities that they failed to convert. Insurance custodian Abubaker Nura also denied an effort from Biniam Fikre. Abraham Getachew of Saint George was shown his marching orders seven minutes before time, but the Horsemen kept the league leaders at bay.

The draw means Ethiopian Insurance are not mathematically champions yet, but they are very close. They top the standings with 64 points and need only one more point to be crowned champions for the first time. Saint George are fifth with 44 points.

Elsewhere, Wolwalo Adigrat University came from behind to stun Diredawa Ketema 3-1. Zerai Gebreselassie gave the Easterners the lead at the start of the second interval, but goals from Sultan Berhe, Natnael Solomon, and Dawit Gebru handed the Yellows their second victory of the campaign.

Diredawa Ketema are 12th with 39 points. Wolwalo are relegated and sit bottom with 19 points.
