On Tuesday, Ethiopian Insurance extended their lead at the top of the Ethiopian Premier League table after beating Fasil Kenema 2-0.

Elsewhere there was late drama as Hadiya Hosaina came from two goals down to defeat Wolwalo Adigrat University while a relegation dogfight between Diredawa Ketema and Mekele 70 Enderta ended in a stalemate. Today’s Week 29 matches of the top flight observed a moment of silence for deceased former player Gabriel Ahmed at the Hawassa University Stadium.

Ugandan striker Allan Kayiwa was the difference as Ethiopian Insurance downed Fasil Kenema in Week 29 of the Ethiopian Premier League. Kayiwa scored in each half to hand Insurance a much-needed victory over the Emperors, who looked disorganized.

Ethiopian Insurance top the standings with 57 points, nine points ahead of second-placed Ethiopian Coffee. Fasil Kenema are 10th with 35 points, five points above the drop zone.

Hadiya Hosaina miraculously came from behind to defeat Wolwalo Adigrat University 3-2. The bottom side took a surprising 2-0 lead in the second half through goals from Ugandan striker Fahad Bayo, who scored from the spot, and Dawa Hotessa.

Nevertheless, the Southern Ethiopian side struck thrice in 16 minutes to take home three points. Beyene Banja, Temesgen Birahanu, and Mamo Ayele helped Hosaina turn the tables in the dying moments of the game.

Hadiya Hosaina are fourth with 41 points. Wolwalo remain last with 13 points.

In a relegation dogfight, Diredawa Ketema and Mekele 70 Enderta played out a 1-1 draw. Yared Birhanu gave Mekele the lead, but former Ethiopian Insurance attacker Habib Kemal restored parity with a penalty kick in the second half.

The Easterners are 14th with 30 points, while Mekele are 15th with the same tally as the relegation battle persists.
