Sihul Shire were relegated from the Ethiopian Premier League after a 1-0 loss to Saint George in a Round 32 game played at Adama Science and Technology University Stadium. Shire are the second team to be relegated from the top flight.
Sihul Shire came into the match knowing that only a victory would keep their hopes of league safety alive. Nevertheless, it was a slim chance, considering the point gap with the teams above them had been growing in recent weeks.
Saint George scored the decisive goal of the encounter in the second half when an unmarked Fitsum Tilahun headed home from a corner. The Horsemen ended their three-game winless run in the process.
Sihul Shire followed Wolwalo Adigrat University in being relegated to the Ethiopian Higher League, as they sit 17th with 22 points. They had been reinstated to the league following a special decision made by the Ethiopian Football Federation.
Two other clubs will be relegated from the league this season.
