The relegation battle intensifies in the Ethiopian Premier League as Week 27 games kicked off on Wednesday, pitting three struggling teams against each other. Ethiopian Cup finalists Wolayta Dicha were held to a 1-1 draw by Sihul Shire while Adama Ketema and Wolwalo Adigrat University also settled for a draw.

The week started in an epic way for Wolayta Dicha, but they failed to return to league action with a win after drawing against strugglers Sihul Shire. The northern Ethiopian side took the lead through a Birhanu Adamu header in the 65th minute. However, the lead was short-lived as Tsegaye Birahanu restored parity four minutes later.

In the later kickoff, it was a direct relegation six-pointer between Adama Ketema and Wolwalo Adigrat University. The Yellows broke the deadlock when former Adama striker Dawa Hotessa scored from close range following a howler by goalkeeper Dagim Tefera. However, Nebil Nuri equalized with a superb strike before the end of the first half.

Wolayta Dicha are fifth with 38 points. The relegation battle is now taking shape after three direct rivals failed to secure maximum points. Nine games remain for the three clubs to save their season and avoid relegation to the Ethiopian Higher League. Adama Ketema are 16th with 22 points while Sihul Shire sit 17th with 19 points. Wolwalo Adigrat University are bottom with 12 points.
