It took less than five minutes for substitute Etta Eyong to make a massive impact for Villarreal on Saturday. The rising Cameroonian forward broke the deadlock late to give The Yellow Submarine three points on the road in a 1-0 result at Girona.

The 21-year-old was left unmarked to head in from an Alfonso Pedraza cross in the 89th minute soon after coming on for only his second La Liga appearance this season. It was a goal that could be crucial in the Valencian club's pursuit of a UEFA Champions League place next season, strengthening Villarreal's hold on 5th place and the final Champions League spot.

Eyong is a player to watch for the future, earning his first team opportunity after a prolific season with Villarreal B in Spain's third tier. The Douala native produced 17 goals and 6 assists in 29 games for Villarreal's reserve team and made his La Liga debut for the senior team on April 20 as a late substitute in a 2-2 draw with Real Sociedad.

With plenty of interest from other clubs in Europe who could give Eyong a bigger role at this early stage in his career, it appears that he could get more opportunities in important matches after making a strong impression. Saturday's match was the first of three games in eight days and the Cameroonian could be given more minutes in Villarreal's next match on Wednesday against Leganés.
