Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi has charged his former club to look elsewhere for a top striker above the level of Nicolas Jackson if they must challenge for the Premier League title.

The former Super Eagle has raised concerns over the Senegalese striker's scoring form in the ongoing English Premier League season under manager Enzo Maresca, stating that Jackson is not the type of forward suitable for the Blues. Jackson has scored nine Premier League goals this season – managing to net only once in his last six appearances.

Mikel believes Jackson’s lack of clinical finishing in front of goal is a major issue for Chelsea.

"We are creating chances, we are still playing well, we are still doing the right things but we’re not clinical enough, we’re not scoring goals," Mikel said on his Obi One Podcast. "If we had Victor Osimhen or the guy from Sporting, Viktor Gyokeres, trust me we’d still be competing for the Premier League."

"The club should’ve done that before the start of the season. I definitely think the club should get another centre forward," Mikel concluded. Chelsea's form has dipped in recent times with an ongoing four-match winless streak (two losses, two draws) dropping the Blues ten points behind league leaders Liverpool.
