Motsepe Foundation Championship side Cape Town City FC has signed former Kaizer Chiefs defender Njabulo Ngcobo, just two weeks after he parted ways with Sekhukhune United.
The Cape Town club announced the acquisition of the 31-year-old centre-back on Friday. Ngcobo, a former South African top-flight Defender of the Season, mutually agreed to terminate his contract with Sekhukhune, where he had signed on a free transfer in July 2024. He struggled for game time during his one season at the Limpopo club, making only six appearances across all competitions.
The move to the Citizens comes after Ngcobo’s previously reported talks with newly-promoted Betway Premiership side Durban City FC fell through.

Cape Town City FC expressed their excitement about the signing, believing Ngcobo’s experience will be crucial in their bid to return to the Betway Premiership next season, following their relegation last campaign.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of defender Njabulo Ngcobo. Welcome to the Mother City, Njabulo,” the club stated.
Ngcobo is the fourth player to join the club ahead of the new Motsepe Foundation Championship season. The team had already announced the signings of defender Sifiso Ngobeni, goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart, and striker Simon van Duivenbooden a week prior.
The Gavin Hunt-coached side gained automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership after finishing the 2024/25 season at the top of the Motsepe Foundation Championship table with 58 points from 30 matches.
