Ex-Kaizer Chiefs star appointed coach of Linare FC in Lesotho

Jabulani Mendu, affectionately known as ‘S-curl’ in football circles, has taken the reins as the new head coach of Lesotho side Linare FC for the upcoming season.

The former Kaizer Chiefs star has inked a two-year deal with an option for an additional year.

Mendu brings strong credentials to his new role, holding a CAF A Licence, which he obtained last year. This coaching qualification is a mandatory requirement by CAF for coaches to be eligible to sit on the bench during CAF inter-club competitions.

During his illustrious playing career, Mendu also showcased his talents at clubs such as Thanda Royal Zulu, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Moroka Swallows before hanging up his boots in 2007.

The 48-year-old retired midfielder isn’t the first South African mentor to lead Linare; former Orlando Pirates coach Teboho Moloi also took charge of the Lesotho outfit in November 2020.

Linare FC have expressed immense delight in securing Mendu’s services, believing they have found the ideal leader to elevate the club to new heights.

“We are excited to introduce our new head coach, Jabulani ‘S-curl’ Mendu, with experience and a proven track record of success. Coach Mendu brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to our team,” the club stated in an official announcement on Saturday.

The club emphasised their aspirations under Mendu’s guidance: “Under coach Mendu’s leadership, we are committed to developing talented players, building a strong team culture, and achieving victory on the field. Let’s give him a warm welcome and show our support as we embark on this exciting new chapter together.”

Last season, Linare concluded their campaign in 10th position in the Lesotho top-flight, accumulating 37 points from 30 matches.
