Former Kaizer Chiefs stars Patrick Mabedi and Wedson Nyirenda have reportedly applied for the coaching job at Lesotho Premier Soccer League heavyweights, Matlama FC.

Pan-Africa Football was unable to verify independently whether indeed the former AmaKhosi defender Mabedi and striker Nyirenda from Malawi and Zambia, respectively, had indeed expressed interest in the job.

However, media outlets in Lesotho have released a 17-man list comprising Nyirenda, the current COSAFA Cup team coach for Zambia, the-ex-Flames gaffer Mabedi and former Chiefs youth team coach Thabo Tsutsulupa.

There are more South Africans said to have applied for the post, including Bongani Maseko and Morena E. Lothane. The local contingent of the applicants features Shalane Lehohla, Thabile Secker, Molebatsi Mothobi, and others.

Finnish Steven Polack is also among the applicants, hoping to succeed Halemakale Mahlaha, whose contract expires this month.

Matlama FC advertised the post, indicating that they were looking for a coach with a minimum qualification of a CAF A Licence or UEFA A Licence.

The club says it is looking for “a visionary and tactically astute leader to spearhead the team, drive competitive excellence, and uphold the proud traditions of Matlama FC.”
