Former Asante Kotoko captain Eric Donkor is confident that the return of striker Kwame Opoku will add a lot of bite to the club’s attack.

Kwame Opoku, 27, has rejoined the Porcupine Warriors after unsuccessful stints in Algeria and Morocco in a period of three seasons. He has been offered a two-and-a-half year contract and Eric Donkor believes that, Kotoko will have the best of him.

“I have been following the Ghana Premier League and I must attest to the fact that, goal scoring is not about Kotoko alone but all the clubs. Yes Kwame Opoku has played for the club before and everyone can attest to his performance and his goal scoring prowess.

“He returning to Asante Kotoko is good for the club.” Eric Donkor told Pan-Africa Football. “He didn’t perform in Algeria and Morocco but I know what he did for Asante Kotoko before leaving the shore of Ghana.

“Clubs demand for goals from strikers or attackers, they don’t have time to be patient like clubs in Europe. I know people will look at his qualities and not what he did in Algeria and Morocco.” Eric Donkor added.

Opoku signed for USM Alger in 2021 after scoring 6 goals from 16 premier league games but struggled to command a regular spot in the squad. He left to join Morocco outfit, Olympique Khouribga but a troublesome knee injury limited his playing time and was offloaded when OCK were demoted from the top flight.

He is expected to add some firepower in the record Ghana Premier League holders’ frontline which has struggled to find the back of the net in the 2024/25 season. Asante Kotoko will host sworn rivals, Hearts of Oak in week 13 top liner at the Baba Yara on Sunday, December 15.
