Former Liverpool FC striker Emile Heskey has explained why he visited Zimbabwe to support that country’s Castle Premier Soccer League (PSL) rookies, Scottland FC, on Sunday, May 11, 2025..

The ex-England international watched Khama Billiat’s Scottland FC’s domestic match against Simba Bhora at Rufaro Stadium. In a pitch-side interview with ZTV’s host Charles Mabika, Heskey said he came to Zimbabwe at the invitation of Scottland FC’s management.

The former England forward said he was happy to watch the match and hopes to visit Zimbabwe again.

“It has been an honour to come. I am hoping to see some exciting football. I am a guest of them [FC Scottland], so I will be supporting them. I arrived on Friday on a short and wonderful trip, and I will be back again,” he said.

Heskey, dressed in Scottland’s FC golf shirt, said he is now involved in coaching Leicester City’s under-18 girls and boys’ teams. He hopes his two children could emulate him and play in the Premier League.

“Now I am watching my sons playing for Manchester City under-18 and under-20 teams,” he said.

Heskey formed a formidable partnership with Michael Owen at Liverpool scoring 39 goals in 150 appearances. He also played 62 games for England and scored seven goals.
