Ex-Pirates star Gyimah: ‘I am homeless, I want my house back’

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Edwin Gyimah has been involved in a heated dispute with family members, including his sister, whom he accuses of seizing his property.

Gyimah claims the ordeal has left him homeless and without a club, attributing his struggles to “spiritual attacks.”

The ex-Betway Premiership star was captured live on Oyerepa FM’s courtroom-style programme, Oyerepa Afutuo, in Ghana. During the broadcast, a visibly distressed Gyimah was seen exchanging harsh words with a woman believed to be his sister via a hands-free phone call.

The former Pirates utility player demanded the return of his eight-bedroom house, located in Obuasi, which he claims is being withheld by his relatives.

“You are staying in my house, and you are negotiating with me,” the ex- Pirates star retorted during the show, hosted by popular media personality Auntie Naa. “When you live in a glass house, you don’t throw stones.”

“You are a big liar,” he continued. “You shouldn’t cheat your brother. I need my house back. Get out of the house. I am tired of you people; I have sacrificed for you and yet you have disgraced me.”

Reports from several news outlets in Ghana suggest that the former Black Leopards player believes his family is behind the stagnation of his career, having failed to secure a move back to South Africa despite multiple attempts.

The former Bidvest Wits midfielder alleged that he remained jobless despite receiving 21 offers from various clubs in a single season. He claims none of these moves materialised due to spiritual interference from certain family members.

The former Black Stars international reportedly sought help from his family regarding these perceived attacks. However, he alleges that his relatives demanded he sign over the house’s title deeds in exchange for $4,500 (GH¢50,000)—a proposal he flatly rejected.

The 35-year-old maintains that he is currently struggling without a home and is intent on evicting his sister and mother from the property.

Fallout with Former Agent

This public outburst follows concerns raised last year by the ex-Pirates player’s former South African agent, Ratshibvumo Mulovhedzi. Taking to social media, Mulovhedzi expressed concern over his then-client’s temperament, which he believed led to Gyimah’s rejection of a contract offer from Magesi FC.

Mulovhedzi further claimed that the versatile player turned down a PSL offer worth R100,000 per month.

However, Gyimah previously dismissed those claims, telling FARPost in February 2025 that the agent had tarnished his reputation. He clarified that he only refused to sign an incomplete contract.

“When he sent me the contract, there was no signature from Magesi, my name was not on it, and there was no start date,” Gyimah stated at the time. “I told him the team has to sign before I can sign. But he was angry and started saying a lot of things about me.”
