Ex-Sundowns assistant Romain Folz named Young Africans coach

Tanzania Mainland Premier League champions Young Africans have unveiled Romain Folz as their new head coach ahead of the new season.

Folz, a former assistant coach at Mamelodi Sundowns, replaces Miloud Hamdi, who moved to Egyptian club Ismaily. Hamdi left the Jangwani-based club having guided them two a domestic double – Premier League and the Federation Cup.

Yanga secured the league title for the fourth consecutive season after beating rivals Simba SC 2-0 in the final fixture of the campaign before lifting the domestic Cup after defeating Singida Black Stars 2-0 in the final.

The French tacticians moves to Yanga having amassed enough coaching experience across the African continent. In 2018, Folz was appointed manager of American side West Virginia United, and in 2019, he was appointed assistant manager of Uganda. After that, he was appointed assistant manager of Pyramids in Egypt.

In 2020, Folz was appointed manager of Ghanaian club Bechem United. After that, he was appointed assistant manager of Niort in France. In 2021, he was appointed manager of Ghanaian team Ashanti Gold, and after that, Folz was appointed manager of Township Rollers in Botswana.

He moved on to Guinea’s Horoya AC in August 2023 before he joined Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions Mamelodi Sundowns as an assistant coach until December 10, 2024, when he was relieved of his duties.
