Ex-Sundowns Ladies coach breaks silence on Morocco job

Former Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ team coach Jerry Tshabalala has broken the silence on his recent appointment as Morocco’s Sporting Club Casablanca FC’s mentor.

The CAF Champions League-winning mentor was jobless for months since his acrimonious departure from the Hollywood Bets Super League defending champions mid-December 2024.

After months on the sidelines amid allegations over improper conduct with his previous employer, Tshabalala returned into the coaching business on July 20, 2025. Casablanca FC unveiled the South African ahead of the 2025-2026 Moroccan D1 Women’s Championship.

Now, Tshabalala has explained why he found the Moroccan team’s employment offer irresistible to ignore. He cited Casablanca FC’s ambition as one of the reasons he accepted the post.

“Sporting Club Casablanca is a very ambitious club,” Tshabalala told the team’s media.

“You could tell that they were only formed in 2019, but already they have achieved a lot in terms of football. They have been in the final of CAF Champions League and it is one of the things that motivated me to say this is the club that I can join in terms of wanting to achieve more with the club.”

The 45-year-old described the opportunity to coach the Moroccan women’s football giants as an honour.

“They have produced a lot of good players. It is a big honour for me to be associated with them. I really wanted to be part of their ambition. They have shown that they want to achieve more. they have produced a lot of good players,” he explained.

“Casablanca Sporting Club’s management is very young and very energetic. It is the management that is very ambitious. You can tell they want to achieve more in women’s football. They have a lot of ambition. It is management that is very ambitious. It made it easier for me to be able to adapt.”

The Tembisa-born trainer added: “I want to thank them for the opportunity they have given me. They have also opened an opportunity for me to be part of the negotiations in terms of the players coming into the club. It is very important for me to add value in terms of players that are coming to the club.”

Tshabalala made a name with Sundowns Ladies after leading them to two CAF Women’s Champions League titles.

Domestically, the coach won seven Hollywood Super League titles during his reign, which did not end particularly well. He was placed on leave to pave the way for investigations of alleged improper conduct at Sundowns last year.

However, the outcome of the investigations was never made public, and he eventually parted ways with the club. Tshabalala has followed in the footsteps of compatriot Rulani Mokwena who had a stint with Wydad Athletic Club.
