Angolan veteran goalkeeper Hugo Marques has cleared the uncertainty surrounding his future with Petro De Luanda by disclosing that he has extended his contract by a year.
Speaking exclusively to Pan-Africa Football, the former Cape Town City FC custodian hinted that one more year could be the last in professional football.
“I will play one last year at Petro. Then I will continue my classes for the UEFA A-Licence because I already have the UEFA-B,” he said.
The veteran keeper has spent four seasons with Petro de Luanda, winning seven trophies.
Earlier, the 38-year-old expressed his burning desire to join Kaizer Chiefs and reunite with countryman, Inacio Miguel. However, the Soweto giants did not show interest in the keeper.
The Angolan set the record in the 2024 Champions’ League group stages after keeping clean sheets in six consecutive matches. Petro reached the quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by TP Mazembe.
The former Palancas Negras first-choice keeper rejoined Petro de Luanda in 2023 after abruptly ending his contract with Cape Town City FC in South Africa, where he established himself, winning the 2021-22 PSL Best Goalkeeper of the Season Award.
Marques was outstanding for Petro de Luanda in the 2023-24 Girabola season in Angola, conceding only 11 goals in 28 league matches for Petro de Luanda.
