Tanzanian giants Simba SC are entering a new season with renewed hope, following a bold promise from head coach and former Orlando Pirates mentor, Fadlu Davids.
Speaking at the club’s annual Simba Day event at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Wednesday, Davids told supporters that his second season will be one of “success” and “trophies,” after the club ended his debut campaign in second place, four points behind rivals Young Africans.
Simba has not won a league title in four seasons and last lifted the CRDB Federation Cup in 2021/22. During the highly anticipated event, Davids said this season is dedicated to winning.
“Last season, we came very close to making a historic season. You were behind us every step of the way, and we appreciate it,” Davids told a packed stadium. “We love you, Simba fans. Last season was the season of building. We were building the team and putting in the foundations. This season is a season of success. This season is a season of trophies.”
The event also served as an official introduction for new South African players Neo Maema and Rushine De Reuck, who recently joined Davids’ squad after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Tanzanian side is now preparing to kick off their CAF Champions League campaign against Gaborone United on Saturday, 20 September.
