Legendary Tunisian coach Faouzi Benzarti has extended his stay at US Monastir for another season.

Benzarti was named coach of the Tunisian side in February 2025 and led them to a second-place finish in the Tunisian Ligue 1, behind his former employers, Esperance de Tunis.

The veteran coach is one of the most decorated managers to ever come from North Africa. His managerial career began in 1979 and has spanned five countries, mainly Tunisia, Morocco, and Libya.

He has led Tunisian giants Esperance, Etoile du Sahel, and Club Africain, and has also coached Moroccan heavyweights Wydad AC and Raja Casablanca.

Benzarti, 75, has been leading Monastir for the past six months and helped them reach the semi-final of the Tunisian Cup. His team’s runner-up finish in the league means the club will be one of Tunisia’s representatives in the 2025/26 CAF Champions League.

Union Sportive Monastir confirmed on Wednesday the reappointment of Benzarti as head coach for the 2025/2026 season.

The agreement was formalised by the club's management, who also announced that a new assistant coach will be appointed shortly.
