Simba SC head coach Fadlu Davids has admitted that the second goal from Singida Black Stars made the huge difference in the team’s shocking 3-1 defeat to go out of Tanzania's Federation Cup at the semi-final stage on Saturday.
The Msimbazi Reds found themselves trailing after Ghanaian striker Jonathan Sowah, showed his class to score the opener in the 17th minute, before Emmanuel Keyekeh capitalised on a mistake by Simba goalkeeper Moussa Camara to add the second.
Keyekeh added his second goal of the day but third for Singida before Jean Charles Ahoua's excellent free kick pulled a goal back for Simba but it was not enough as the Reds exited the domestic competition at the Tanzanite Kwaraa Stadium.
“Congratulations to Singida, they started the game better than us, of course they scored the first goal, but again the mistake leading to the second goal, is what really deflated the team,” Davids told Pan-Africa Football.
“We regrouped and tried to come back, but the free-kick early in the second half, is really what wrapped up everything, we had two big chances, Kibu with a header just before half-time to make it 2-1, and Mukwala had another, we definitely had enough chances to come back, but our first half was not good enough to help us qualify, especially the way we started the game, it was not good enough.
“It was the third game in six games, you could see the freshness was no there, very slow to the ball, very slow to move the ball around, and coming out here to Singida, we had to do a lot of travelling, definitely it took the tall out of the players, and then in the first half, that second goal is what changed the whole of the entire match.”
Black Stars will now face Young Africans in the final. For Simba, hope still remains of a league title in the NBC Premier League but they will have to overcome rivals Yanga when the teams meet on June 15 following the FIFA window. Simba trail by one point, making the upcoming edition of the Kariakoo Derby a title deciding clash that Simba must win.
