After a strong first half on Friday at the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup, Morocco were limited to a 0-0 draw against Oman after being reduced to ten players early in the second half.
A dominant first half suggested that a victory for the North Africans was inevitable. However, striker Abderrazak Hamdallah was issued a red card in the 53rd minute that allowed Oman to claim a point in the Group B encounter.
Outside of a hopeful long range effort in the 6th minute that went far wide, Oman posed little threat to the Moroccan defense. Dominant in possession, the only thing lacking for the Atlas Lions was the finishing department. Hamdallah, the poacher with a legendary goal scoring record in the Gulf region, had a couple of opportunities but failed to finish.
The striker based at Saudi club Al Shabab then dealt a blow to the cause of his team after halftime. Engaged in a physical duel, Hamdallah fell over and his foot struck the face of Oman defender Musab Al Shaqsy which resulted in a red card and expulsion.
Oman, who must be credited for an impressive defensive performance, proceeded to create little despite their numerical advantage. Limiting the opposition to long range efforts and crosses into the penalty area, in the end the result was acceptable for Morocco who remain in a strong position in Group B.
If the Atlas Lions can avoid defeat in their final group match against Saudi Arabia on Monday, they will advance to the knockout stages. Saudi Arabia will face Comoros later on Friday, where a victory will move the Gulf powerhouse to first place in the group.
