Paris Saint-Germain are through to the Round of 16 as winners of Group B at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi gave European champions PSG a 2-0 victory over Seattle Sounders on Monday.
Hakimi put the final touches on the victory in the 67th minute when the Moroccan superstar arrived to finish from a cross by Bradley Barcola. Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring for the heavy favorites in the 35th minute at Lumen Field in Seattle.
Seattle, who were motivated in front of their home support despite being already eliminated before the last round of Group B games, produced a strong effort to challenge PSG. The Parisian giants showed their superior quality in the final third to achieve the victory they needed to secure qualification for the Round of 16.
PSG finished level with Botafogo and Atlético Madrid with all three teams ending the group stage on six points. However, despite losing to Botafogo, PSG advance as group winners due to their 4-0 opening match victory over Atlético which saw them end with the best head-to-head record between the three teams. Atlético finish in third place due to their lopsided defeat to PSG.
PSG will face the runners-up from Group A in the Round of 16 with Group A set to be decided later on Monday. Hakimi and the UEFA Champions League winners could face Palmeiras of Brazil, Lionel Messi and Inter Miami, FC Porto or Egyptian titans Al Ahly depending on the results later.
Hakimi builds on his incredible 2024-25 season after scoring. He now has 10 goals and 12 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions this season.
