Mamelodi Sundowns’ striker Peter Shalulile has revealed their readiness to take on the best in the world when they kick off their 2025 FIFA World Club Cup campaign at Inter & Co Stadium on Wednesday.
The South African Premier League champions have been drawn in Group F alongside CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores champions Fluminense FC, German giants Borussia Dortmund and South Korea’s Ulsan HD, who both secured their respective passages to the tournament via the ranking pathway.
They will face Ulsan HD on Wednesday in the opener, take on Borussia Dortmund at TQL Stadium in matchday two on Saturday, June 21, before winding up their group stage fixtures against Fluminense at Hard Rock Stadium on Wednesday, June 25.
“It’s a wonderful feeling because you’re going to see one of the best players also, the best teams, whereby you can also see how good you are football-wise,” Shalulile said ahead of the opener as quoted by SABC Sports.
Shalulile continued: “But we’re excited and ready for that [moment], it’s a massive feeling because you do not want to disappoint at that level – a lot of thousands of people are going to be there. I know that you’re going to have butterflies, but those ones will eventually go away, but we’re expecting an amazing full [stadium] from day one until the last day.”
On being the first Namibian to play at the global tournament, the 31-year-old said: “It’s a massive achievement, I wish for many more Namibians to reach that stage because it’s possible. If I can go there, it means anything is possible – if you want to achieve it, it’s there for you to go out and achieve it.”
