FIFA President signs agreement to open Africa Office in Rabat

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has officially signed an agreement with the Government of Morocco and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) to establish the FIFA Africa Office in Rabat. The agreement was inked in Marrakech alongside Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa, with CAF President Patrice Motsepe also in attendance.

Set to begin operations in 2025, the Rabat-based office will serve as FIFA’s main hub for African football development, strengthening its presence on the continent ahead of Morocco’s co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Portugal and Spain.

“Morocco has shown extraordinary dedication to football development and has become a beacon for the sport, not just in Africa but globally,” Infantino stated. “This office will be more than administrative — it will be the heartbeat of football growth in Africa.”

Infantino hailed Morocco’s impressive strides on and off the pitch, noting its recent footballing achievements including the men’s national team’s historic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the women’s team reaching the round of 16 in their debut at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The country will also host five consecutive editions of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup starting in 2025 and is set to stage the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), further solidifying its place as a football powerhouse.

FIFA’s Africa office in Rabat joins other regional offices in Paris, Miami, and Jakarta, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to fostering global football development.
