The Uganda U17 Women’s National Football Team head coach, Sheryl Botes Ulanda has reduced her squad to 25 players as preparations intensify for the CAF Qualifier to the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup against Namibia.
The team initially comprised of 39 players who began residential camp on Wednesday at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
“This morning, we released some players and we are left with 25 as we continue preparations for the games against Namibia,” Coach Botes confirmed. She expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress, particularly their fitness levels and adherence to tactical instructions.
“The players have been very positive since we arrived here. We are organizing video sessions to explain our strategies clearly and ensure they understand their roles. They are aware of the stakes and are building the confidence and belief that beating Namibia is achievable through collective effort,” she stated.
Botes praised the players’ eagerness to learn, noting their active participation during training sessions. “The girls look good and positive. I am happy with their curiosity and determination to grasp what we expect from them against Namibia,” she added.
The first leg of the qualifier will take place on Thursday, January 16 at Hamz stadium, Nakivubo, counting as the "home" leg for Namibia due to lacking a suitable facility to host matches. This will be followed by the return leg at the same venue three days later which will count as Uganda's home match. The aggregate winner will face Kenya in the next qualification phase.
