The official draw for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 was conducted today at Chilevisión’s Machasa Studios in the Chilean capital, Santiago.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from 27 September to 19 October 2025, with matches hosted across various cities in Chile.
A total of 24 teams will compete in the competition, divided into six groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the Round of 16.
African Representation
Africa will be represented by four national teams: Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, and South Africa.
These nations secured their places after reaching the semi-finals of the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament won earlier this month by South Africa.
While the draw seems relatively balanced for most of the African sides, Morocco faces a daunting challenge in the “Group of Death,” alongside tournament heavyweights Brazil, Spain, and Mexico.
Group Stage Draw:
Group A: Chile, New Zealand, Japan, Egypt
Group B: South Korea, Ukraine, Paraguay, Panama
Group C: Brazil, Mexico, Morocco, Spain
Group D: Italy, Australia, Cuba, Argentina
Group E: USA, New Caledonia, France, South Africa
Group F: Colombia, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Nigeria
Historical Note
Africa’s proudest moment at the FIFA U-20 World Cup came in 2009, when Ghana became the first and only African nation to win the title, defeating Brazil in the final.
