Ghana’s road to the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland was given a severe shock when South Africa held them to a 2-2 draw in the first leg qualifiers on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana’s head coach Charles Sampson has however expressed confidence that his players will be mentally prepared for the return encounter.
“We have a crop of players that are mentally strong and psychologically, we will also do those parts and get them tuned and ready for the next to make sure we get what we are looking for,” Sampson said.
“We know that there are two games; a home and away, that is why we are here. We are going to prepare and make sure we go to South Africa at their home and go forward.”
The winner of the two legs comes up against either Zambia or Uganda for a spot at the World Cup in Poland.
The Black Princesses have appeared at the U-20 Women’s World Cup since 2010 but have never gone out of the group stage.
