FIFA World Cup [Q]: “Ghana is on the right path to qualifying” – Kudus

Ghana will reconvene in Morocco on Saturday, September 4 for the penultimate 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Central Africa Republic.

The four time African champions will face Central African Republic at the 35-000 seater Stade d’Honneur de Meknes on Wednesday September 8, a match Ghana needs all three points to safeguard their qualification for the next mundial in Canada, USA and Mexico.

After collecting four points from their last two fixtures where they drew 1-1 in Chad before beating Mali by 1-0 in Accra, Black Stars midfielder Mohammed Kudus has urged his Ghana teammates to approach the final phase of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with utmost seriousness after missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana has quality players to replicate 2010 performance

Mohammed Kudus said: “Obviously, AFCON is also one of the major tournaments that the country loves and wants to participate in. Not qualifying was a big disappointment, but I think the full focus now is on the World Cup qualifiers,” Kudus told Sports Illustrated.

“I think you represent your country like a one-time thing. That’s the one with the biggest emotion and feeling for me. It means a lot wearing that jersey with a lot of pride. We have to qualify at all costs. I think we are on the right path now.”

“In 2010 we went all the way to the quarterfinals. And I believe this squad can even do more than that. But first we have to qualify and then we can focus on the tournament itself.”

Ghana currently lead Group I with 19 points after eight matches – three better than Madagascar and four ahead of their last qualifying opponent, Comoros. Mali have 12 points and Central African Republic have five points with Chad bottom of the table on just one point.

Ghana will play their last fixture against Comoros on 12th October at the Accra Sports Stadium. The Black Stars are chasing their fifth FIFA World Cup appearances after showing up in three consecutive editions in 2006, 2010 and the 2014 editions in Germany, South Africa and Brazil respectively.
