FIFA World Cup (Q): Sundowns star Shalulile headlines Namibia squad

Mamelodi Sundowns star Peter Shalulile has been named in Namibia’s Brave Warriors provisional squad to face Liberia and Tunisia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in October.

The Brave Warriors handler Collin Benjamin named Shalulile in the squad ahead of the Group H qualifying matches scheduled for the 9 and 13 October respectively.

Other South Africa-based footballers notably Deon Hotto of Orlando Pirates have joined the South Africa’s Premier Soccer League all-time leading scorer in the squad.

The squad includes Kennedy Eib, Willy Stephanus, Tjipee Karuuombe and Jonas Mateus who were not part of the call up for the qualifiers against Malawi and São Tomé earlier this month.

The Brave Warriors will take on hosts Liberia at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex on Thursday, 9 October. Thereafter, Benjamin’s men will conclude their qualifiers against Tunisia at the Hammadi Agrebi Stadium on Monday, 13 October

Namibia motivated going into World Cup qualifiers

The Brave Warriors received a financial boost last week when the World Cup Campaign Committee paid them winning bonuses amounting to N$ 450,00. The money went to the 24-member playing squad for the Namibia game against Principe.

“Every of the 24 players received an amount of N$ 15,000 while the 9-member technical team each received N$10,000. A total of N$450,000 was therefore paid in winning bonuses,” the statement reads.

Additionally, players who did not make the playing squad have received N$ 1,000 each in addition to the similar amount they pocket from NFA.

The money should motivate Namibia who are bidding for a World Cup qualification via continental play-off going into next month’s matches against Liberia and already qualified group leaders Tunisia.
