The International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) has released its rankings for November, with notable facts for some African teams. These rankings are updated based on ranking points accumulated by November 28.
Global rankings overview
The top five teams in the world retained their positions, with Argentina leading the chart, followed by France, Spain, England, and Brazil. Meanwhile, Portugal climbed to 6th place, and Netherlands rose to 7th.
Notable African national team rankings:
1. Morocco
Morocco remains the top-ranked team in Africa, despite dropping one spot globally from 13th to 14th.
2. Senegal
Senegal holds onto 2nd place in Africa and improved globally, moving from 20th to 17th.
3. Egypt
Egypt maintains its position as the 3rd best team in Africa but fell globally from 30th to 33rd.
4. Algeria
Algeria rose to 4th in Africa while retaining its global ranking at 37th. This is due to Nigeria’s decline.
5. Nigeria
Nigeria dropped from 36th to 44th globally, moving down to 5th place in Africa.
6. Ivory Coast
The Ivory Coast fell globally from 40th to 46th but retained 6th place in Africa.
7. Cameroon
Cameroon climbed to 7th in Africa, overtaking Tunisia. It maintained its global rank at 49th.
8. Mali
Mali improved its global ranking from 54th to 51st, placing 8th in Africa.
9. Tunisia
Tunisia dropped from 47th to 52nd globally and slipped to 9th in Africa.
10. South Africa
South Africa entered the top 10 in Africa, climbing from 60th to 57th globally, overtaking DR Congo.
11. DR Congo
DR Congo fell globally from 57th to 61st, losing its spot in Africa’s top 10.
African national teams enjoyed the greatest ranking rise as well as the biggest drop in November:
Niger
Niger achieved the most significant global rise in November, climbing 9 spots to 122nd from 131st. It also gained the most ranking points globally in November, earning 31.23 points.
Comoros
Comoros reached its highest-ever global ranking, moving up to 103rd.
Nigeria
Nigeria experienced the steepest global drop in November, falling 8 places from 36th to 44th.
DR Congo
DR Congo experienced the most lost global ranking points in November, with a decrease of 35.53 points.
