Al Ahly forward Trezeguet has promised their fans an improved performance when they face Porto in their third group stage match at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.

The Egyptian Premier League champions suffered a devastating 2-0 defeat against Palmeiras in their second fixture at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Thursday.

Al Ahly kicked off their Group A campaign with a 0-0 draw against Inter Miami.

Against Palmeiras, two second-half lapses enabled the Brazilians to tighten their grip on the group. However, the Egyptian giants will go into their group-stage finale with Porto on Monday with the hope of advancing to the round of 16.

“Of course we are not happy because we lost, but we have another game and we hope we can win and we can qualify,” Trezeguet told FIFA.com. “The whole team will be better next game, for sure, because we came here to make something. And God willing, in the next game, we will fight to qualify.”

On facing Porto, he said: “Porto are a big team, a strong team. We are a big team and we are strong, and we will fight. It was not our day today, but I hope in the next game that we will win.”

Following the defeat, Al Ahly remained bottom of Group A with one point, and have gone 180 minutes without scoring in the United States – a statistic they must correct against Porto on Tuesday if they hope to extend their American adventure.
