After enduring a frustrating 0-0 draw opening draw against Inter Miami in their Group A fixture at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Al Ahly have confirmed star player Emam Ashour will miss the remainder of the tournament in the USA.

The 27-year-old midfielder started in the game against Miami at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, but he only sustained an injury with only seven minutes of the game played after he experienced pain around his shoulder area.

Ashour tried to continue play until the 14th minute when Al Ahly’s Portuguese manager Jose Riveiro decided to replace him for Zizo. The Egyptian medical team has now confirmed that he will be out for the remainder of the global showpiece with a broken collarbone.

“Medical examinations on Emam Ashour in a Miami hospital showed he sustained a broken collarbone, and he will miss the remaining matches in the Club World Cup,” Al Ahly doctor Ahmed Gaballah said in a club statement.

Ahead of the tournament, Ashour had revealed readiness to participate and help AL Ahly reach the highest level. “Without a doubt, I’m very excited to play against the best player in the world. I’m confident in our ability to achieve an achievement worthy of our name and that of Al Ahly,” he said previously as quoted by FIFA.com.

Riveiro, who was taking charge of his first competitive match since arriving at Al Ahly, will have to shuffle his squad when Al Ahly will face Palmeiras in their matchday two fixture at MetLife Stadium outside New York City on June 19.
