KCCA FC have confirmed that long-serving defender Filbert Obenchan has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Obenchan’s previous deal was set to expire at the close of the 2024/25 campaign, sparking interest from several clubs, including South Sudanese giants Jamus SC. However, the versatile defender has opted to continue his journey at his boyhood club.

A graduate of the KCCA Soccer Academy, Obenchan featured for the junior side from 2015 to 2017 before rising through the ranks to the senior team. He has now spent nine years with the Lugogo-based outfit and is set to mark a decade in yellow by the time his new contract runs out.

He rejoined KCCA FC in 2022 on a three-year deal, having initially left the club after deciding not to renew his earlier contract. His return proved vital in shoring up the backline, thanks to his versatility and experience.

Throughout his time at KCCA, Obenchan has collected several honours, including the 2019 CECAFA Clubs Cup, the 2018/19 Uganda Premier League title, and the FUFA Super 8 Cup. He also enjoyed a loan spell at UPDF FC, where he gained valuable top-flight experience.

KCCA FC, under rebuilding plans, have already strengthened their squad with the arrivals of forward Ivan Ahimbisibwe from URA FC and defender Lazaro Bwambale from Kitara FC as preparations intensify ahead of the new season.
