Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has declared his ambition to represent Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, the Super Eagles, at the FIFA World Cup.
His statement come while speaking with the media as the Super Eagles continue their World Cup qualifying campaign in Uyo, Nigeria against Rwanda.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru expressed his desire to play at the – the FIFA World Cup: “The World Cup, that’s the biggest stage for a footballer in your career, especially playing for your country.”
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru also added that the possibility of playing in the biggest stage of world football drives him and his teammates.
“It will be a very massive moment for not just me, I’m sure all the players here. It will be a massive moment for all the staff, all the fans. That’s what we’re working towards,” the 24-year-old player said.
Super Eagles are set to play their next World Cup qualifier match against Rwanda on Saturday, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
This is a must-win match for Nigeria to keep their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup alive, as they are currently in fourth place in qualifying Group C, with seven points from six matches.
The group is led by South Africa with 13 points, followed by Rwanda and Benin, both on eight points.
