Fiston Mayele’s AFCON call-up postponed: what happened behind the scenes?

Pyramids FC announced that it has received an official notification from the Congolese Football Federation confirming the postponement of Fiston Mayele’s arrival to the DR Congo national team camp.

Sebastien Desabre, head coach of the DR Congo national team, had previously named Mayele in his squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

AFCON 2025 will be hosted in Morocco from 21 December to 18 January. DR Congo is placed in Group D, alongside Benin, Senegal, and Botswana.

Pyramids had earlier received a call-up for Mayele, with the original schedule requiring him to join his national team’s preparations on 8 December. However, following FIFA’s decision to delay the release of international players participating in AFCON to 15 December, the Congolese Federation officially informed Pyramids that Fiston Mayele’s reporting date has been moved accordingly.
