Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have confirmed the cancellation of FKF Super Cup, which is a curtain raising fixture for the Kenyan Premier League that was scheduled for Sunday, September 14.
The fixture was due to involve Premier League champions Kenya Police FC and domestic FKF Cup winners Nairobi United. However, Police FC have confirmed in a statement that the match has now been cancelled.
“The FKF Super Cup match has been cancelled,” read the statement from Police. “This decision was made to allow the clubs to prepare adequately for their upcoming crucial CAF assignments.
“The team now shifts its full focus with preparations already underway.”
Police clinched their first-ever league title last season after amassing 65 points, six more than Kenyan record champions Gor Mahia, while Kakamega Homeboyz came third.
On the other hand, Nairobi United lifted their first-ever domestic Cup after defeating Gor Mahia 2-1 in the final on the closing day of last season.
