Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League holders Gor Mahia have started the process of owning their stadium after the club management assessed the suitability of a 48-acre piece of land in Lukenya, next to Daystar University, Machakos County.
Led by the club's new deputy Patron Eliud Owalo, the club officials including chairman Ambrose Rachier, toured the area with the main purpose of building a stadium, club house and other relevant amenities.
A statement issued by Owalo and obtained by Pan-Africa Football confirmed: "As the Deputy Patron of Gor Mahia, I have led the management of the club in assessing the suitability of a 48-acre piece of land in Lukenya, next to Daystar University, Machakos County:
"This is for purposes of the construction of the Gor Mahia stadium, club house and other relevant amenities. The proposed infrastructure will entail the main stadium with a seating capacity of 60,000 fans, three training pitches (for senior, youth and Queens teams), accommodation apartments for players, a 4-Star Hotel, indoor gym and convertible gymnasium, club offices, media centre, swimming pool, recovery facilities including a sauna, administration block, merchandise store, retail outlets, washrooms and ample parking, among other amenities."
Apart from Owalo and Rachier, others who graced the tour include Vice Chairperson Sally Bollo, Secretary General Nicanor Arum and treasurer Gerphas Okuku.
Should the process be fruitful, the record Kenyan champions will become the first club to own a modern stadium in the history of Kenyan football.
