FKF Premier League: Gor Mahia vs AFC Leopards derby gets new venue

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions Gor Mahia have confirmed they will host rivals AFC Leopards in their return leg Mashemeji derby at Kasarani Stadium.
The two sides faced off in the first leg derby at Nyayo Stadium with the game ending in a 0-0 draw. With the 97th derby between the Kenyan giants slated for Sunday, K’Ogalo have confirmed the 60, 000 seater will host the explosive tie.
“Club officials: Vice Chair Sally Bolo, Secretary General Nick Arum and Treasurer Gerphas Okuku at Kasarani Stadium to check on the venue that will stage the Mashemeji Derby on Sunday. All set for the big match,” read a statement by the club.
The match will be the first to be hosted at the iconic stadium since it was closed down for renovation and upgrading in August 2023. Alongside Nyayo, Kasarani has been undergoing renovation in readiness to co-host the 2024 Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Gor Mahia will head into the derby sitting second on the league table with 53 points from 29 matches while Ingwe are lying sixth with 42 points from 29 outings.
