Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League outfit KCB have confirmed head coach Patrick Odhiambo's departure following a spate of poor results in the top flight.

According to a statement made by the Bankers, Odhiambo, who joined the side from Kakamega Homeboyz, was fired alongside his assistant coach Jeffer Odongo and fitness trainer Eric Muranda. The changes came a few days after KCB crashed out of the domestic FKF Cup in the quarter-finals after losing to lower division side Nairobi United.

“We have had mutual discussions with the coach and the two assistants. We want to inject fresh impetus into the team to finish strong and prepare for the next season,” said KCB chairman Bramwel Simiyu.

“KCB Football remains a crucial part of the KCB brand’s sporting platform. With that said, it’s imperative for us to take stock of where we are as we position ourselves more strongly for the future. We have an ambition to win the league and to sustain such a performance over the years.”

Odhiambo replaced Bernard Mwalala, who had stepped away from the role due to personal reasons. He lost his final nine games in the league. Goalkeeping coach Samuel Koko Okoth will take charge on an interim basis for the remaining two matches of the 2024/25 season.

The Bankers are sitting ninth in the 18-team league table with 41 points from 32 matches. They have managed ten wins, 11 draws and suffered 11 defeats.

KCB will conclude the season with matches against Nairobi City Stars and AFC Leopards, taking place after the FIFA international break.
