FKF Premier League: Okidi not giving up on Shabana title ambitions

Shabana FC head coach Peter Okidi has remained adamant that they are in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League to win the trophy at the end of the season.

The Kisii-based Glamour Boys suffered a setback in their quest to clinch their first-ever title after losing 1-0 at home against defending champions Gor Mahia. However, they bounced back in their next assignment to edge out KCB 1-0 at Machakos Stadium.

They are currently sitting fourth in the 18-team table with 49 points, nine less than leaders Kenya Police, and six less than second-placed Tusker. According to Okidi, Shabana did not come into the top-flight to participate, but to make sure they win the title.

“We managed to bounce back from a match that I still don’t believe we lost. The outcome was not what we wanted, it was a game with distractions. But the boys got it right, we have managed to score one goal, and took the points,” Okidi told Pan-Africa Football.

“Our target remains to win the league. We came into this league to win it, it is our target. We did not come to participate. Despite losing last weekend (against Gor Mahia) it doesn’t mean we have given up, let every team win their matches. Last weekend Tusker dropped points, it doesn’t mean they are out of the race.

“Even Gor Mahia dropped points, so it doesn’t mean when we lose everything comes to an end, we are chasing for the title, we are not giving up. Our focus is to win all the remaining matches and see where we will be at the end of the season.”

Shabana, who have registered 13 wins, will continue their hunt for the title when they host Bidco United at Gusii Stadium on Wednesday.
