After beating Bandari FC 1-0 to move five points clear at the summit of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League table, Kenya Police FC head coach Etienne Ndayiragije has refused to discuss their chances of winning the crown at the end of the season.

The law enforcers went into the game knowing a win will help them widen their lead but they had to wait until the last minutes of the stoppages to score what turned out to be the winner.

Marvin Nabwire scored the all-important goal in the 89th minute to seal the crucial points for Police, who are chasing for their first-ever league title. With only 15 minutes played, Police found the back of the net but their effort was ruled out for offside.

“It was a very tough game, against an opponent, who was very organised defensively, we tried our best to unlock their defence, and we finally managed at the tail end of the game,” the Burundian coach told Pan-Africa Football after the game.

“Sometimes football needs luck because when I look at the kind of chances Mohammed Bajaber missed, I couldn’t believe it, he doesn't miss such kind of open chances, but the good thing is we won, Bandari gave us many questions to answer, and we responded by winning the fixture.”

Asked about the title race with four matches remaining to conclude the season, Ndayiragije offered: “Police are currently on top, it means for now, we are the ones with one hand on the trophy, we want to win our matches, let the rest also win their matches.

“We are not looking at their matches, my focus is on Police, I am employed by Police, so I am not looking at the other teams, I have my own fixtures for Police that I need to keenly follow, and that is where my focus is.”

They are five points ahead of record champions Gor Mahia, whose chance to close the gap was postponed, following the cancellation of their eagerly-awaited Mashemeji derby against rivals AFC Leopards that was scheduled for Sunday.
