FKF Premier League: Police, Tusker, Gor Mahia aim to bounce back in title race

Title-chasing trio of Kenya Police FC, Tusker FC and Gor Mahia will aim to bounce back from their respective defeats in previous matches when they return to FKF Premier League action on Sunday.

Table leaders Police, who lost 2-1 against Kakamega Homeboyz, will host FC Talanta, Tusker, who suffered a shock 2-0 defeat against Talanta, will be up against Sofapaka while record champions Gor Mahia, who lost 2-1 against Nairobi City Stars, will travel to face Murang’a Seal away at SportPesa Arena.

With three matches remaining to conclude the season, the race for the title is becoming intriguing each and every weekend. Police are currently sitting at the top with 58 points, they are followed by Tusker on 55 points, Gor Mahia are third on 53 points but have played one match less while Shabana are following closely in fourth with 52 points.

Police head coach Etienne Ndayiragije is not ready to throw in the towel as far as the race for the crown is concerned.

“We lost but remained on top of the table, that is a big encouragement at this stage of the season, it means we are still in the title race, whatever number of days it takes to play the remaining matches, we are in it,” said the Burundian coach ahead of their fixture against Talanta.

“We want to do our part, we are not interested with what our rivals are doing, we deserved to win against Homeboyz, we had many chances than them, we should have come out with something from the game if not a win, but I have asked my players to quickly shift focus into the next game.”

In other matches, after beating Mathare United 3-1, AFC Leopards will travel to face Bandari in Mombasa, Kariobangi Sharks will be at home against Homeboyz, while Nairobi City Stars will entertain Posta Rangers.
