Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions Gor Mahia striker Benson Omala has been cleared by world governing body FIFA to play, ending a prolonged contract dispute with his former club, Al Safa.

Omala, the FKF Premier League’s top scorer for the 2023/24 season, had returned to Gor Mahia after terminating his contract with the Lebanese side, but a contractual conflict had stalled his return to action.

A statement from the record Kenyan champions confirmed: “Striker Benson Omala is now free to play for us after being cleared by FIFA; the player has been training with us for some time as we wait for clearance.

“We officially welcome back Omala.”

Omala will now be available when Gor Mahia face Bandari in the Round of 16 fixture of the domestic FKF Cup on Saturday. He joins a Gor Mahia side, who are currently chasing to win a third consecutive league title.

K’Ogalo are currently lying third on the 18-team league table with 46 points, three less leaders Kenya Police FC, and they still have one game in hand. Gor Mahia have won 13 matches, drawn seven and lost five.

After the Cup game, they will resume their hunt for the title with an away fixture against Sofapaka on 19 April.
