Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League champions Gor Mahia will return to action with a top of fixture against Tusker at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday.
The record champions have not been in action in the top-flight since December 22 when they defeated Kariobangi Sharks 1-0. Meanwhile, Tusker were in action in mid-week as they edged out Bandari 1-0 to dislodge KCB from the top of the 18-team league table.
While Tusker will be aiming to consolidate their lead, K’Ogalo, who are seeking a third win in the league. Since drawing 1-1 against Shabana on December 11 and losing 1-0 against Kenya Police, Gor Mahia under interim coach Zedekiah ‘Zico; Otieno, have gone ahead to register two straight wins.
They beat Ulinzi Stars 3-0 and followed it up with a 1-0 result against Sharks before their fixture against Posta Rangers was postponed owing to their players’ involvement with Harambee Stars at the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup tournament in Zanzibar.
Last season, Gor Mahia beat Tusker 1-0 in the first round fixture but the Brewers recovered to revenge in the second round after managing a 1-0 win. In the previous season, Gor Mahia won the first meeting 2-1 before they drew 1-1 in the reverse fixture.
In the 2022 campaign, the first meeting ended 0-0 before Tusker beat K’Ogalo 2-0. While Tusker are leading the pile with 30 points from 16 matches, Gor Mahia, who are chasing for a third straight title, are lying fourth with 24 points and have played two matches less.
On Saturday, AFC Leopards under Fred Ambani will confront FC Talanta, who are sitting in the relegation zone while Mara Sugar will start life minus fired coach George Midenyo when they entertain Mathare United at Awendo Green Stadium.
KCB, who have enjoyed the top spot for most part of the season, will face Nzoia Sugar seeking to keep pressure on Tusker. However, the Bankers will navigate the fixture minus defender Haniff Wesonga, who has been ruled out for three months after sustaining an injury.
In other matches, Shabana will be in Mombasa to face Bandari, Kariobangi Sharks will host Ulinzi Stars while Sofapaka will be up against Posta Rangers.
