Tusker reclaimed second spot in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League table following a 2-0 win against Murang’a Seal at Machakos Stadium on Saturday.

The Brewers went into the fixture knowing that with Gor Mahia not playing on Sunday – their Mashemeji derby against AFC Leopards called off – a win would enable them to leapfrog K’Ogalo and settle in second position on the 16-team league table.

They took the lead in the 12th minute when Dennis Oguta did well to flick behind a looped ball from George Kaddu. The ball found Deogratious Ojok, who took it in his stride, and powered past three markers before firing home.

In the 26th minute, it should have been 2-0 to the Brewers after Oguta was brought down outside the box. Left-back Dennis ‘Decha’ Wanjala stood behind the long-range free-kick, but his effort flew over the bar. Two minutes later, ‘Decha’ delivered a brilliant cross from the left. Oguta met it with a nifty touch, but the keeper dived to bat it away for a fruitless corner.

At the start of the second half, substitute Eric Belecho picked up the ball on the turn and fired into the net to double Tusker’s lead. Murang’a had a chance to reduce the deficit in the 60th minute when they were awarded a penalty, but Joe Waithira sent his effort wide.

The win enabled Tusker to move second with 55 points. They are now three points behind leaders Kenya Police, and two points ahead of Gor Mahia. Tusker have managed 16 wins, 10 draws and suffered four defeats this season.
